Elizabeth Township On Street Parking
The Elizabeth Township Code of Ordinances, Section 409, concerns, “Parking on Street Prohibited in Certain Circumstances Where Off-Street Parking is Available.” The Section reads as follows. “Where off-street parking is available, parking is prohibited on the traveled portion of any street or highway in a residential district where a clear and obstructed width of not less than twenty feet (20) upon the main traveled portion of the said street of highway shall be left free for the passage of other vehicles therein. (Ord. 561, 6/1/1987)” The ordinance requires all motorists to park off-street unless: 1. off-street parking is not available, or 2. there is more than 20 feet of roadway available to navigate around the parked vehicle. In order to provide enforcement of on street parking in accordance with the stipulations required of the ordinance, Elizabeth Township police officers will adhere to the following procedures.
1. Officers will make every reasonable effort to have an illegally parked vehicle moved. 2. Officers will not write a tag if the owner has a reasonable explanation for on street parking as per ordinance. 3. Officers will write a $5.00 Township tag if the owner refuses to move the illegally parked vehicle or is repeatedly in violation of the ordinance following an initial warning.
The Elizabeth Township Board of Commissioners recently sponsored a feasibility study of options for development of a recreation complex in Elizabeth Township. The study was financed in part by a grant from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and was prepared by consultants PBS&J. The final report is available on the Elizabeth Township website at www.elizabethtwp.com. At their April 2 meeting, Elizabeth Township Commissioners will consider authorizing application for additional DCNR grant funding to acquire property for development, consistent with the findings of the study. Public comment will be invited at the meeting.
