Public Works Manager for Elizabeth Township

 

 

 

     The Township of Elizabeth, a First Class Township located in the Southeastern section of Allegheny County approximately 25 miles from downtown Pittsburgh, is seeking a qualified individual to manage all Public Works activities.  This individual should be energetic and able to demonstrate positive and progressive leadership skills.  Degree in Civil Engineering/Public Administration or a related field is preferred.  A combination of experience and education will be considered.  Primary responsibilities include planning, scheduling, budgeting, and implementation of all maintenance operations.

Public Works Manager

Duties

 

  1. Responsible for the day to day operation of the Public Works Department and its personnel including, but not limited to, scheduling work, acting as custodian of employee attendance records and daily work reports, the care of all township equipment, and recommending and controlling the department budget within approved limits.
  2. Responsible for assigning the daily duties of various work crews and reporting daily to the Township Secretary/Administrator on works in progress and completed projects.
  3. Ensure that work is performed in accordance with established safety rules, township and department policies and procedures, and the current bargaining unit contract.
  4. Respond to resident complaints.
  5. Prepare payroll reports.
  6. Order supplies and services as needed.
  7. Coordinate the repairs and yearly inspection of all trucks/equipment including police vehicles.
  8. Create/maintain vehicle maintenance records.
  9. Prepare specifications for new vehicles and equipment.
  10. Act as the department coordinator during emergency management operations.
  11. Ability to function as a CDL licensed driver and equipment operator and/or skilled labor when needed.
  12. Assist the Secretary/Administrator in the preparation of department budgets.
  13. Responsible for the review of all department applications for employment.
  14. Responsible for the scheduling yearly, monthly and weekly work assignments within the department and for the coordination with other governing bodies.
  15. Ability to establish and maintain a positive working relationship with employees. Other Township staff, and the general public.
  16. Attend monthly meetings and special meetings as directed by the Township Board of commissioners.
  17. Such other work as assigned by the Township Board of Commissioners from time to time.
